A cost-efficient, effective way of banking our business model is founded on investment and development of technology with clear and simple product and service principles.
This low cost and agile infrastructure allows us to offer good value products to customers with a great user experience. Products can be scaled quickly resulting in delivering returns to investors.

Governance
Running a bank can be complex and creates a number of risks.
Effective risk management is a core part of our strategy and is integral to being an authorised and credible bank.
We’ve created a strong team and organisational structure to ensure the business is appropriately managing these risks.
Our Board of Directors is responsible for the overall governance of the Bank. Good corporate governance underpins the integrity of Atom and the wider community in which we operate. Our success is predicated on a framework of effective systems of internal control, risk management and compliance, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Our Executive team
The Executive team, under the leadership of our Chief Executive Mark Mullen, is responsible for executing the strategy for the business and the day to day running of Atom.
One of the co-founders of Atom, Mark was formerly Chief Executive of multi-award winning first direct, the UK’s first telephone bank. In addition to leading the Atom team he chairs the Challenger Bank Stakeholder Group as part of the Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE).
Andrew has over 20 years’ experience in banking. He has held senior positions in EY auditing, advising financial services institutions on retail credit risk management with a focus on banking and capital markets, before serving as a Director in Barclays Group Finance delivering reporting to public markets and executing corporate finance transactions.
Since joining Atom in 2016, Andrew has held the positions of Group Financial Controller, Deputy CFO and Director of Corporate Finance, leading on a number of key initiatives including capital raises, securitisation transactions, and the successful Banking Competition Remedies bid and became Chief Financial Officer in November 2022.
Gareth joins Atom with over 26 years in the banking sector, including extensive experience as a Chief Risk Officer. Over the course of his career, Gareth has undertaken a broad range of roles across product, strategy, finance and risk management. He holds excellent credentials and has a proven track record in risk management, risk culture and leadership, which is vital to Atom as we continue to grow our proposition and build sustainable profitability.
Chris has almost 25 years’ experience in a range of retail banking roles. He started his career in corporate planning and capital markets at Northern Rock and has held senior roles across product, strategy and operations at Tesco Bank, Newcastle Building Society and Sutherland Global.
After joining Atom in 2020 as Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, Chris is now Chief Commercial Officer with primary responsibility for personal and business lending, savings, partnerships, sales and distribution, brand and experience.
Helen is responsible for leading Atom’s customer operations teams to deliver outstanding customer service. She has more than 25 years of experience in retail banking, including Northern Rock and working as a consultant with Deloitte for two of the UK’s major banks, before joining Atom as Head of Customer Service in 2014.
With over 20 years’ experience as CIO and IT leader delivering Agile and DevOps transformation, Andy is responsible for Atom’s Technology. Andy has previously worked for BP and Bank of America, and brings a combination of deep technical knowledge, transformational leadership, business acumen and Agile, Lean and DevOps expertise.
Laura is the General Counsel and Company Secretary at Atom bank and is responsible for the legal, procurement and facilities teams at Atom. She joined us in 2014 from the Banking Team at Womble Bond Dickinson after completing her legal training in the Midlands.
Ayshea Robertson is Chief People Officer at Atom bank and is responsible for Recruitment, Learning and People Compliance. As a qualified Human Resources (HR) professional, she has over 20 years of experience in HR, and has led HR functions within a wide range of businesses over the course of her career, including at Bellway Homes, Zen Internet and Newcastle Building Society.
Our Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is committed to maintaining the high standards of corporate governance expected by our customers, investors and regulators. It is responsible for formulating the strategy for the business and providing the oversight and direction to put it into effect.
Lee has spent 35 years in financial services. Most recently Lee was CEO at Arrow Global plc, a listed integrated asset manager that Lee took through both a strategic and cultural transformation before taking the business private. Prior to that, Lee was CFO at Virgin Money, playing an instrumental role in taking the business public, as well as working at a variety of international banks advising financial services businesses on their balance sheet management and funding strategies.
Lee is also a Governor and Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee at Nuffield Health, the UK’s largest healthcare charity. Previously, he has been Trustee of Metropolitan Housing Trust, a charitable housing association and Trustee and Treasurer of the Migration Museum.

Ergun started his banking career at Treasury Department of Turkiye Is Bankası and joined joined Garanti Bank as a Vice President at Treasury Department. He then had a number of roles before becoming a board member. He’s lead one of the largest financial institutions in Turkey as the President and CEO for 15 years.
David was an audit partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he spent over 25 years working with leading retail financial services businesses in both the banking and insurance sectors. During that time, he advised on regulatory compliance, risk management and accounting matters including carrying out Skilled Persons Reviews for the PRA. He has participated as a non-executive director or governor on a number of not-for-profit and higher education boards in each case chairing the audit and risk committees. He is Deputy Chairman of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and also the Royal Northern College of Music.
Cheryl has 25 years’ experience of leading business transformation, with significant digital, commercial and operational experience in a wide range of industries. Previous roles include Chief Information Officer at Asda and Waitrose and most recently Chief Digital Officer at Travis Perkins. She was formerly Managing Director of the Retail Branch Network and Managing Director of Retail Savings at HBOS and has served as a Non-Executive Director at National Savings and Investments. She is also currently a Non-Executive at Equiniti Plc.
Gonzalo is the Head of Digital M&A at BBVA Group, responsible for digital - fintech acquisitions and strategic investments. He is Managing Director at BBVA Strategy and M&A Group, providing strategic and financial advice to BBVA’s Executive Committee and Board in relation to BBVA’s global strategy and corporate development. Gonzalo’s experience includes the execution of corporate strategic and M&A projects in the USA, Europe, Latin America and Asia. He joined BBVA in 2001, previously holding roles at BBVA Corporate and Investment Banking and BBVA E-Business.
Laurence has had a 37 year career in stockbroking and investment banking with Cazenove and latterly with JP Morgan. He has held several senior leadership roles within JP Morgan including Head of UK Equity Capital markets, Head of UK Investment Banking, Head of EMEA Industry Coverage and Vice Chairman for Equity Capital Markets EMEA. He has broad experience across a wide aspect of investment banking encompassing broking, capital raising including IPO’s, M&A and general financial advice. He has advised some of JP Morgan’s most high profile clients. He is currently an Non-Executive Director at Clarskon PLC, the world’s leading shipbroking business and a FTSE 250 member. He is also Non-Executive Chairman at ABM Communications, a privately held media company and a Non-Executive Director at Recycling Technologies, a plastic waste technology business.
Christine is a leading risk management professional, with international experience. Her specialism includes credit and operational risk, with some market risk coverage. She has worked in all sectors within a major global bank, and has been recognised as an expert in consumer finance, commercial, corporate and institutional lending. More recently, she worked as a global funds subject matter risk expert (e.g. hedge funds, private equity fund of funds, investment trusts and UCITS). Christine has also been involved with the establishment and implementation of risk policies, including KYC, for the integration of acquired subsidiary and affiliate companies in earlier years. She has chaired consumer industry organisations, negotiating with European and UK Government departments.
Johnny has had a near 30-year career in the investment management industry, specialising in the financial sector. He is a co-founder of Toscafund Asset Management LLP, a London-based investment firm that was established in 2000, and is solely responsible for the management of all funds and co-investments within their financial strategy. Prior to his involvement with Toscafund, Johnny held positions at several institutions, including Tiger Management, Credit Lyonnais, and Société Générale Securities.
Alicia is a graduate in Law and Business Administration and INSEAD MBA, with over 20 years of professional experience in strategy consulting and banking. She has worked across Europe and in the US for McKinsey, Deutsche Bank and BBVA, in roles in corporate and investment banking and innovation. She is Head of Strategy and Innovation in BBVA Client Solutions. Alicia leads global innovation and transformation projects for retail customers and corporate clients, bridging current business needs with cutting edge technology developments and new industry business models.
