Atom bank ramps up recruitment as they bring new products to market and build their regional presence
Atom, the Durham-based company that is the number one rated UK bank on Trustpilot, is looking to hire another 20 people into their Technology team alongside roles in Operations, Risk and Finance as they get ready to expand their product suite.
The jobs will be based at their Durham headquarters at the Rivergreen Centre and adds to the 420 jobs that Atom have created since launching 6 years ago.
Edward Twiddy, Chief Customer Officer at Atom bank said: “We’re a fast growing company, bringing lots of opportunity to the North East and we’re committed to driving positive change in the region.”
“Atom has a brilliant and inclusive culture which we’ve worked hard to retain over the COVID-19 crisis. As we grow again we’re eager to take advantage of talent on our doorstep. We have provided large numbers of jobs for graduates of the region’s colleges and universities alongside some more experienced hires in recent years, and we remain committed to finding the right balance of talent in these latest tranches of new roles.”
The digital bank has recently re-platformed its entire core technology stack onto Google Cloud, and partnered with leading UK fintech Thought Machine to create a new product set based on smart contracts – a novel technology that allows the bank to create flexible and customised products for all customers.
Asked what opportunities these new roles would provide, Edward Twiddy said: “This investment in technology and innovation will make our business more efficient and agile, resulting in a markedly better experience for our customers. For anyone wanting the chance to work with the best banking technology in the world and the most customer-centric bank in the UK, these new roles represent a great opportunity.”
“We’re also continuing to build partnerships across the region and the North to grow our capability. I was particularly delighted when we signed our partnership with Gateshead-based Wordnerds last week, and we’re already using their advanced linguistics AI to support our social media team.”
Atom has also been doing their bit to help smaller businesses and is one of a small number of banks offering secured loans to new to bank customers through the Government-backed Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS).
Edward added: “We’ve been accepting CBILS applications since the start of June through our national network of 200+ independent brokers. Last week we processed over £40m of applications for CBILS, reflecting the demand for our simple, transparent and competitively priced products.”
As well as helping smaller businesses deal with the fall-out of the crisis, Atom are also helping the region’s young people who find themselves in need of additional help. In 2017 Atom announced a four-year STEM partnership with the Prince’s Trust as their leading STEM partner and have recently made a donation to the Young People Relief Fund.
Edward Twiddy said: “We’re very proud to be a lead partner with The Prince’s Trust and to help young people during this crisis and beyond. At the same time we are actively backing the creation of the Durham Mathematics School for young people with a strong aptitude for maths, and I am delighted to be supporting the Department for Education’s Opportunity North East project that focuses on attainment and progression across secondary schools and academies in our region.”
