Security
At Atom, we go the extra mile to make sure your account is protected. What’s more, we never stop exploring ways to make our app even more secure.
Find out more about why you’re in safe hands below.
I have a security issue. What should I do?
If you suspect that there’s a security issue with your account, please contact us as soon as possible via the app chat or by calling 0333 399 0050 (8am–8pm, 7 days a week).
How do we secure our app?
We think it’s important to give you choice in the way you access your app, so we have different options available.
You can choose to use your device security to keep your account safe. This means that you can use features such as iOS Touch ID*, iOS Face ID* and Android Fingerprint to log in.
As an alternative, you can use our own in-app biometric security (Face and Voice) and Passcode to log in. We also use these details to verify some actions when you’re using the app.
These features ensure we can keep your account secure, as well as making it really easy and convenient for you to access.
* Touch ID and Face ID are registered trademarks of Apple Inc.
Do I have to use my face and voice to register?
Yes, to become an Atom customer, you have to register Face and Voice in-app biometrics, as well as a Passcode.
When you register your in-app biometrics and every time you use them to log in or verify something, they are encrypted and remain accessible to us for a limited period of time. They are then stored as an algorithm so they cannot be accessed as identifiable pieces of personal data.
This also applies to your device security, if you choose to enable it.
How do you make sure my data is secure?
Keeping your data secure is our top priority, so we do a number of things to keep your information safe. One of these is that we never store your data on the app. Any data that we keep on our servers is encrypted and stored securely. All these actions, and the others we take, help to keep your data safe.
If you’d like more info on how we use your data and keep it safe, you can check out our Privacy Policy.
When and how will Atom bank contact me?
You’ll hear from us when we need to keep you up to date with your account or share important information.
We’ll mostly keep you in the loop through app notifications and email. You’ll get these when we need to tell you about a key event, like confirming your new account is open. We will also notify you about day-to-day activity, like when a monthly or annual statement is available.
Occasionally, we may need to contact you by phone, but we’ll only ever do so when we need to clarify something important about your account. We’ll email you first, and we’ll always give you the option to call us back.
What will Atom ask me about?
We will only ever contact you about your accounts with Atom.
We will never ask you:
- To share your National insurance number or passport number
- To share personal information that does not directly relate to your Atom account or transactions
- To share your mother’s maiden name
- To share full account numbers, card numbers or security codes
- To install additional applications or software to your device
- To take control of a your device
Do you use any other types of security?
Yes, we use a service called Confirmation of Payee (CoP) to verify payments to and from your savings accounts.
It helps to protect against unauthorised push payment scams and reduces the number of payments made by mistake. You can find out more about it at Pay.uk.
